Pilates is a method of mind-body exercise developed in the early 20th Century by Joseph Pilates.
Pilates has the ability to transform the way you look and feel by increasing muscular strength and flexibility, improving your posture and improving your core and back strength.
Pilates exercises are practiced in a slow, controlled manner (nothing is forced), usually in a standing, seated or floor-based position. Sometimes equipment is used.
Pilates is suitable for most – you work at your own pace and ability level.
Benefits of Pilates
Pilates helps to retrain and strengthen muscles which have been neglected due to our hectic lifestyles such as rounded shoulders (too much computer work or driving) or weak lower backs due to slack tummy muscles or poor stance.
It’s great for rehabilitation from injury or illness and used widely by physiotherapists to help to alleviate back pain.
Pilates works well alongside other fitness regimes and complements all types of sporting activity.
